Despite not achieving the results he would have liked at round six of the Enzed Touring Car Masters at Sydney Motor Sport Park last weekend Jim now finds himself leading the Pro Masters class by ten points.

In the single qualifying session he finished 9th in the Shannons AMC Javelin 2.4 seconds off pole position which was taken out by John Bowe in the Torana.

In the first eight lap race Jim got caught up behind the Camaro of Paul Freestone ,who was running by invitation using a previous generation NASCAR engine.

“It took me several laps to get past by which time the leaders had opened up a gap and I was left to battle with Mark King in the Camaro ,Jason Gomersall in the Torana and Tony Karanfilovski in the Mustang to finish eighth”.

In the second eight lap race from eighth at the rolling start Jim had a battle with Andrew Miedecke in the Camaro and again crossed the line in eighth place having recorded the second fastest lap of the race.

The final race over eight laps provided a better result and after a battle with Karanfilovski and Glenn Seton Jim came home in fifth position in a car that had gradually improved over the weekend.

Jim again recorded the second fastest lap of the race to demonstrate the changes the team had made were going in the right direction.

“The car wasn’t handling that well at the start of the weekend with both understeer and oversteer and we spent the weekend making changes before we went out each time to try and overcome that”. said Jim.

“By the end of the weekend the car felt much better and while I would have preferred to be further up the field I can’t complain. We finished the weekend without a mark on the car and that is always a good result”. said Jim.

The seven time Bathurst winner was also surprised to find that he was leading the Pro-Masters class.

“I guess it just proves the point that consistency is the key and because we have finished everyone of the 18 races to date in the season you never know where we may finish up at the end of the series”. Said Jim.

With two rounds and six races to go Jim is on 811 points from Miedecke on 801 ,a fast finishing Bowe on 774 ,King on 724 ,Abelnica 646 and Seton on 608.

Bowe missed one round completely and had a bad opening round in Adelaide but since then he has bounced back in fine style to claim a number of wins including all three races at SMP.

The next round of the Enzed series will be at Bathurst and Jim and the team don’t have a great deal to do to get the car ready for the penultimate meeting “Basically we just need to check the tappets ,change the diff and gearbox ratios and do a wheel alignment and the car is ready to go”. said Jim.

On a personal note Jim recently celebrated his 68th birthday and shows no sign of slowing up.

This month he will also take delivery of a new Porsche Cayman GT4 which will make it’s debut in the demonstration section of Classic Adelaide next month in preparation for Targa High Country in November and the 25th anniversary running of Targa Tasmania in April next year.

In addition to Shannons Jim is also supported by Porsche ,Adrenalin and Leatherman The original Multi Tool.
