MIXED RESULTS FOR JR AT CLIPSAL SA
25 March 2009
This year’s Clipsal 500 round saw Jim Richards with 2 entries, the Biante Touring Cars Masters series in the Falcon Sprint and a return to the Carrera Cup car in the Australian GT championship.
It is 3 seasons since Jim has raced his Porche 997 cup car and showed he has lost none of his speed by being 4th fastest in the first practice session and qualified 9th overall.
Race 1 : On the first lap Jim was hit in the front suspension by another competitor and lost a wheel that saw Jim watch his return race from the sidelines.
Race 2 : The crew had the front suspension and steering fixed but Jim started from the back of the grid and finished a credible 13th.
Race 3 : A little less dramatic than the previous 2 races and Jim improved his position back up to 8th place. The race was won by Craig Beard in his Mosler with David Wall in his Cup s 997 Porche 2nd. A great effort by Jim in his return to the Cup Car. He competes again this weekend at the Australian Grand Prix.
Biante Touring Car Masters.
Jim qualified 3rd in his Falcon sprint.
Race 1 : Forced over the kerb in turn 1 which loosened the rear brake line and forced Jim to retire on lap 3 from a loss of rear brakes.
Race 2 : Starting from the back of the grid Jim worked his way up to 3rd position.
Race 3 : On the warm up lap a carburettor fuel leak started a fire under the bonnet which again had Jim watching the race from the sidelines.
Jim assures us that the Falcon will be right for the next round of the Biante Touring Car Masters in Darwin.
All in all a frustrating weekend but he showed he will be very competitive in both categories in 2009.
